Description

Responsibilities

  • Ensures availability and functionality of production databases critical to meeting business needs on an ongoing basis
  • Provides expertise and experience on data and database related subjects to ensure the delivery of projects that meet business requirements
  • Implements, configures, and troubleshoots database instances, replication, partitions, storage, and access.
  • Sets user privileges within the database environment.
  • Monitors and optimizes system performance using index tuning, disk optimization, and other methods.
  • Installs, designs, configures, troubleshoots, and maintains databases across multiple database technologies.
  • Develops backup and recovery procedures; participates in back-up and disaster recovery planning and implementation
  • Leads data related projects and resolves database related technical issues where appropriate
  • Builds and maintains relevant technical documentation
  • Monitors exception/alert reporting for database processes
  • Monitors and forecasts database growth
  • Monitors and enhances data security/user access model for all databases
  • Works closely with the data architects to define and promote an effective data architecture

Skills & Experience / Compétences & expérience

Skills / Knowledge / Education:
•8+ years work experience in database administration
•Work experience installing, maintaining, operating, tuning and troubleshooting complex
databases in a multi-database technology environment
• Work experience with DB2, Sybase, MS SQL, MySQL and Oracle databases; and UNIX and
MS Windows operating systems
•Experience in developing and applying a database management strategy and leading
technical data related projects
•Experience with dimensional data models and data warehouses would be asset

•Prolonged periods of sitting while using a computer and/or telephone
•Frequent periods (every other week) of emergency after hours support
•Seasonal increases in business (i.e. tax season, month end or quarter end) result in additional
effort and work hours.
