The settlement program for newcomers in the Kingston and Thousand Islands region is funded by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada.
ACFOMI Immigrant Services are funded by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) and are free for the eligible clients. ACFOMI assists new immigrants to Kingston in their settlement process.
Newcomers will be happy to know that they can obtain quality services in French in the Kingston Area. All our services are however offered in Canada’s two official languages
Immigrants can contact ACFOMI Immigrant Services to schedule an appointment with a Settlement Agent. A complete resource center with computers, Internet access, phones, fax, photocopier and reference documents is also available.
How we work with you
The settlement agent determines the eligibility for services funded by IRCC (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada) and helps newcomers to establish their settlement goals and priorities in the Thousand Islands region. Immediate needs such as housing, looking for schools for children are considered at the first appointment. .
Since our settlement services act as mediators between newcomers and the community of the Thousand Islands region, we can guide clients to services and resources such as health care, legal services, recreation and education, and job search.
The settlement agent provides guidance and information on the skills needed to meet daily needs such as housing, banking, shopping, access to social services and information on your rights and obligations in Canada. The settlement agent can also provide assistance in in interpretation of documents and forms.
Counseling services focused on finding solutions and support during the settlement process are also available.
